WHAT MAKES OUR MOSQUE TICKETS AND TOURS DIFFERENT

The Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba was built in the late 8th century under Abd al-Rahman I and, over the centuries, was transformed into a cathedral after the Christian conquest in the 13th century. Today it brings together more than 12 centuries of history and has been part of the World Heritage since 1984.

Our official guides, accredited by the monument, take you through the forest of columns, the mihrab and the cathedral crossing, and we manage your ticket directly, with no intermediaries and at the best price.

THE MOSQUE-CATHEDRAL ONLY AN OFFICIAL GUIDE CAN SHOW YOU

THE MOSQUE-CATHEDRAL OF CÓRDOBA IS...

  • CALIPHAL

Construction began in 785 under Abd al-Rahman I, on the site once occupied by the Basilica of San Vicente. Expanded by Abd al-Rahman II, Al-Hakam II and Almanzor.

  • A CATHEDRAL SINCE 1236

After the Christian conquest, the building became a cathedral. The Main Chapel, Transept and Choir form the large central block added during the cathedral period.

  • WORLD HERITAGE

Declared a National Monument in 1882 and inscribed on the World Heritage list in 1984, with protection extended to Córdoba's Historic Centre in 1994.

  • ARCHITECTURAL

Around 850 columns and 19 aisles. The mihrab, in the caliphal extension, is a horseshoe arch leading to a small octagonal chamber with a shell-shaped dome.

  • ALIVE TODAY

From the Muslim minaret (951-952) to today's Bell Tower. The Gate of Forgiveness, completed in 1377, remains the main entrance to the Patio de los Naranjos.

What to see on your first visit to the Mosque of Córdoba

The interior is understood through its structure: a hypostyle hall arranged in aisles with double arcades resting on columns. Around 850 columns are recorded (jasper, onyx, marble, granite and porphyry), and the extension reached nineteen aisles from north to south.

Maqsura and mihrab. The mihrab sits within the maqsura space, at the centre of the qibla wall. It is linked to the caliphal extension (after the year 965) and is described as a horseshoe-arch entrance to a small octagonal chamber with a shell-shaped dome.

Main Chapel, Transept and Choir. This is the most recognizable Christian part of the visit: it forms the large central block added during the cathedral period, covering an area of approximately 75 x 37.5 metres.

Patio de los Naranjos. This is the complex's former ablutions courtyard. The Muslim courtyard gave way to the Christian courtyard, and its current appearance is the result of works that arranged rows of orange trees as a visual continuation of the columns in the prayer hall.

Gate of Forgiveness. This is the best-known main entrance to the Patio de los Naranjos, completed in 1377.

Bell Tower. Today's tower holds the complex's past within it: from the Muslim minaret (raised in 951-952, with a recorded height of 47 m) to the Christian bell tower that surrounds it today.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY ABOUT OUR GUIDED TOURS IN CÓRDOBA

YOUR OFFICIAL GUIDED TOUR OF THE MOSQUE-CATHEDRAL OF CÓRDOBA

When you've spent years showing your city, you learn that what matters isn't just what you tell people, but how they experience it. Our official monument guides and historians grew up among the streets of the Historic Centre and know both the details inside the Mosque-Cathedral and the places that are truly part of everyday life in Córdoba.

Córdoba was once a caliphate, capital of the Caliphate, with landmarks that make more sense when placed within the route: the Mosque-Cathedral as its symbol, the mihrab and its period of greatest development, and Medina Azahara as the great palatial city of the 10th century.

And Córdoba is also experienced outside the monument: the maze of streets of the Jewish Quarter, the city's UNESCO-recognized heritage, and the Guadalquivir corridor with its historic surroundings. Everything becomes clearer when you explore it with someone who knows what fits together, what to prioritize and how to link it all into a well-rounded visit.
